Pay Rate: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience)

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are looking to appoint a Sports Coach for amazing schools in Barnsley. This is a dual-role position where you will use your coaching skills while also working as a Classroom Support Assistant. Rather than delivering PE lessons full-time, you will help pupils stay engaged with learning, encourage positive behaviour, and provide valuable classroom support throughout the school day. This reflects the intended balance of sports coaching and classroom support responsibilities.

Working as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you will collaborate with teachers to create a positive learning environment, support pupils during lessons, and use your leadership, resilience, and communication skills to help students achieve both academically and personally.

Sports Coach Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers with classroom activities and lesson delivery across a range of subjects
  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group learning support where required
  • Use coaching techniques to promote positive behaviour, confidence, and pupil engagement
  • Assist with classroom supervision and cover when appropriate
  • Support pupils with SEN or additional learning needs where required
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment

Sports Coach Requirements:

  • Previous experience in sports coaching, fitness instruction, youth work, or a similar role
  • Experience working with children or young people in school setting
  • Strong communication, behaviour management, and relationship-building skills
  • Patient, adaptable, and proactive approach to supporting pupils
  • Genuine interest in working within an education setting as both a Sports Coach and Classroom Support Assistant
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)

To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you should: 

  • Have the right to work in the UK. 
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years. 
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
