GSL Education Hull branch are currently looking for dedicated General Cover Teachers to work in secondary schools across York and the surrounding areas. Whether you are looking for day-to-day supply, short-term cover, or long-term placements, we can help you find a role that matches your experience, availability, and career aspirations.

As a General Cover Teacher, you will deliver pre-planned lessons across a variety of subjects, ensuring continuity of learning during teacher absences. You will inspire students to remain engaged in their studies while maintaining high standards of behaviour and classroom management.

Key Responsibilities as a General Cover Teacher:

  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons across a range of secondary subjects, ensuring continuity of learning.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment that encourages student engagement.
  • Adapt your teaching approach to meet the needs of students with different abilities and learning styles.
  • Monitor student progress during lessons and provide clear feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
  • Uphold school policies relating to behaviour, safeguarding, and student wellbeing.
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff to support a productive learning environment.

General Cover Teacher Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching within a secondary school setting or previous experience in a cover teaching role.
  • Strong classroom management and effective behaviour management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • A flexible, adaptable, and professional approach to working across different subjects and school settings.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
