About the Role

As a Teacher of English, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English Language and Literature lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 where appropriate.
  • Foster a love of reading, writing, and communication through creative and inclusive teaching.
  • Create a positive classroom environment where all students feel supported and challenged.
  • Assess, monitor, and support student progress, adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and pastoral teams to promote high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Maintain effective classroom management and uphold high expectations for behaviour, engagement, and achievement.
  • Adapt your teaching approach to support students in both mainstream secondary schools and specialist education settings where required.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for English.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • A commitment to raising achievement and supporting all learners to succeed.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach, with an interest in working across both mainstream and specialist provisions.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND and/or SEMH would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

What GSL Education Offer:

  • Competitive rates of pay with all long-term placements paid to scale from day 1.
  • A dedicated consultant providing ongoing support throughout your placement.
  • Access to a wide range of long-term and permanent teaching opportunities.
  • Opportunities to work in both mainstream secondary schools and specialist provisions across Scarborough.
  • Continuous professional development and training opportunities.
  • A supportive and experienced team with excellent local knowledge.

GSL Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list (where applicable), verification of employment history, references, and other relevant pre-employment checks in line with safer recruitment procedures.
