Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for a Mental Health Support Worker to work within a specialist and inclusive educational setting in York. We are looking for a caring, patient, and proactive professional who is passionate about supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
Mental Health Support Worker Role:
The successful Mental Health Support Worker will provide targeted emotional and behavioural support to students with a range of additional needs, working closely with teachers and pastoral teams to promote wellbeing, resilience, and positive engagement in education. We are looking to recruit a Mental Health Support Worker who can build trusting relationships with young people and contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
Mental Health Support Worker Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and the development of coping strategies
- Support students in accessing learning by helping to reduce barriers to education and engagement
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals to implement individual support plans
- Monitor student wellbeing, record progress, and report any safeguarding concerns appropriately
- Promote an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment where students feel valued and encouraged to succeed
Mental Health Support Worker Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or mental health needs is highly desirable
- Knowledge of behaviour support strategies, emotional wellbeing, and trauma-informed approaches is advantageous
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
- A calm, patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
