GSL Education are currently recruiting for a patient, resilient, and dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in York.

This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about helping children and young people overcome behavioural, social, and emotional barriers to learning. Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will provide consistent support that enables students to engage positively with education and reach their full potential.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional behavioural and emotional support. Through positive relationships, structured interventions, and a calm, consistent approach, you will help learners develop self-regulation, improve engagement, and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

Core Responsibilities of the Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group behavioural support to students with additional needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and active engagement in learning
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and individual intervention plans
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals to support student progress
  • Monitor behaviour and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

As the Ideal Behaviour Support Assistant, You Should Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with behavioural, social, emotional, or additional learning needs
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting learners
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students and colleagues
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to respond positively to challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve positive outcomes

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
