Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull branch are currently hiring a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in York. We are looking for a caring and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, helping them access learning in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist support staff to provide personalised support for students with a variety of additional needs. You will play an important role in promoting academic progress, emotional wellbeing, communication skills, and positive engagement in learning.
Main Responsibilities as a SEND Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with a range of SEND, adapting support to meet individual needs.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities that enable all students to access the curriculum.
- Support students in developing communication, social, emotional, and independent living skills.
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and targeted interventions under the guidance of teaching staff.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and the wider support team.
- Promote positive behaviour while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
SEND Teaching Assistant Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND in an educational or care setting is desirable.
- A good understanding of additional learning needs, such as Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language needs, or moderate learning difficulties.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- A patient, caring, and adaptable approach to supporting learners with diverse needs.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
