Sports Coach Assistant – SEMH / Alternative Provision
Location: Market Weighton
Salary: £95 – £135 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP / September 2026
Contract Type: Full-time (Permanent)
GSL Education Hull are currently seeking a passionate, energetic and resilient SEMH Support Assistant with a Sports/PE Background to join a specialist SEMH and Alternative Provision (AP) setting in Market Weighton.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Sports Coach who is passionate about using sport and physical activity to engage young people, build confidence and support positive emotional and behavioural development.
The school are bringing BTEC Sports from September, and are looking for somebody with a Sport/Pe background to help deliver this, as well as supporting SEMH.
The successful candidate will use their sporting background to create engaging, inclusive and purposeful activities for students who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education. You will play a key role in helping students develop teamwork, discipline, resilience and self-confidence through sport.
The Role As a Sports Coach:
As a Sports Coach, you will:

Plan and deliver engaging sports and physical activity sessions.

Work with students with SEMH needs and those accessing Alternative Provision.

Use sport to support positive behaviour, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
-
Encourage teamwork, communication, discipline and resilience.

Adapt activities to meet the individual needs of students.

Support students who may display challenging behaviour or have difficulties engaging in education.

Create a safe, inclusive and positive environment.

Work closely with teaching, pastoral and support staff.

Encourage students to develop healthy lifestyles and positive routines.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant and Sports Coach who:

Has experience as a Sports Coach, Holds a BTEC Level3, Experience PE Assistant, Sports Graduate or within a similar role.

Has a genuine passion for working with young people.

Is enthusiastic, energetic and able to motivate students.

Is patient, resilient and able to remain calm under pressure.

Can build strong and positive relationships with students.

Has experience working with, or a strong interest in supporting, young people with SEMH needs.

Is confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.

Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
A relevant sports coaching qualification, degree or experience in football, rugby, boxing, athletics, fitness, outdoor education or another sporting discipline would be highly desirable.
