GSL Education are looking for a dedicated SEN / Behaviour Teaching Assistant
GSL Education is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and resilient SEN / Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary or secondary school in Ilford, East London, starting in September.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential. You will play a vital role in creating a positive learning environment by providing tailored support to pupils with a range of special educational needs and behavioural challenges.
Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff, you will provide both 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning while promoting confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional learning and behavioural needs.
- Support students with a range of needs including SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and challenging behaviour.
- Help pupils remain engaged, focused, and motivated throughout lessons and school activities.
- Encourage the development of communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils in managing their emotions and behaviour effectively.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, supported, and confident.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other support staff to deliver personalised learning and behaviour strategies.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
- Support pupils during breaktimes, transitions, and other parts of the school day when required.
- Promote an inclusive, nurturing, and positive learning environment at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals in an educational, care, youth work, mentoring, or support setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or behavioural needs is highly desirable.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team while also using your own initiative.
- A genuine passion for supporting children's learning, wellbeing, and personal development.
- A flexible, positive attitude and commitment to making a meaningful difference in pupils' lives.
