Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, dedicated, and proactive SEND Teaching Assistant to work across schools and specialist educational settings in York and the surrounding areas.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will work closely with teachers and wider support staff to help learners overcome barriers to education, build confidence, and achieve their full potential in a safe and inclusive environment.
About the Role:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised one-to-one and small-group support for students with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and moderate learning difficulties. You will play a key role in promoting engagement, independence, and positive learning outcomes.
Core Responsibilities of the SEND Teaching Assistant:
- Provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support for learners with SEND
- Assist teachers in adapting learning activities to meet individual student needs
- Promote positive behaviour, independence, and confidence throughout the school day
- Support the implementation of individual education and behaviour support plans
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to support student progress
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
As the Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND in an educational or support setting
- Understanding of a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting learners
- Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively within a team
- A genuine passion for helping children and young people achieve their full potential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
