Pay Rate: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience)

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a Sports Coach for active school in Barnsley. We would like to hear from energetic and dependable individuals who can use their sports, coaching, or fitness background to motivate pupils, encourage positive behaviour, and support learning throughout the school day.
As a Sports Coach/ Learning Assistant, you may lead physical activities while also working alongside teachers, supporting pupils during lessons, assisting individuals or small groups, and helping maintain a focused and positive learning environment. The structure, communication, motivation, and behaviour-management skills developed through coaching will be central to both aspects of the position.
Sports Coach Responsibilities:
- Deliver structured sports and physical activities that promote participation and teamwork
- Assist teachers with classroom tasks and planned learning activities
- Provide focused support to individual pupils and small groups during lessons
- Use coaching techniques to encourage engagement, confidence, and positive behaviour
- Help pupils with additional learning needs access classroom activities where required
- Supervise classes or groups during staff absence when appropriate
- Maintain safe, organised, and inclusive environments in both classroom and activity settings
Sports Coach Requirements:
- Experience in sports coaching, fitness instruction, youth work, or a related role
- Confidence supporting children or young people in classroom alongside of physical activity settings
- Effective communication and behaviour-management skills
- Ability to motivate pupils and develop positive working relationships
- Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach to changing responsibilities
- Genuine interest in supporting pupils’ education, wellbeing, and personal development
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach, you should:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years
- Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education
