Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) for fabulous schools in Rotherham. We would like to hear from a compassionate, resilient, and proactive individual who can provide tailored support to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs while promoting positive engagement and personal development.

This role enables you to build meaningful relationships that help pupils overcome challenges, gain confidence, and achieve positive learning outcomes.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group support tailored to pupils' individual SEMH needs
  • Implement behaviour support strategies that encourage positive choices and engagement
  • Foster trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and resilience
  • Assist pupils in accessing learning activities throughout the school day
  • Liaise with teachers and pastoral teams to deliver personalised support plans
  • Contribute to a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs in a school setting
  • Understanding of behaviour management approaches and de-escalation strategies
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Commitment to promoting pupils' wellbeing, inclusion, and educational progress
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
