Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) for thriving school in Sheffield. We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive individual who can provide tailored support to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage positively with learning and school life.

The SEMH Teaching Assistant is going to support pupils' emotional wellbeing while helping them build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour using appropriate intervention strategies
  • Build trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and resilience
  • Support pupils' participation in lessons and daily school activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to implement individual support plans
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs in a school setting
  • Good understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting pupils
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine commitment to improving pupils' wellbeing and educational outcomes
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
