Special Needs Teacher

Salary: MPS/UPS (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only

GSL Education are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher to join a specialist educational setting in Scarborough from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher who is committed to supporting children and young people with complex learning needs and helping every pupil reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will work within a class of Early Years and Key Stage 1 pupils who have a range of additional needs, including pupils who are non-verbal, requiring a nurturing, patient and highly personalised approach to learning.

This role would suit an experienced SEN Teacher or a mainstream Early Years, Primary or Nursery teacher looking to develop their specialist skills within a supportive and rewarding environment.

The Role

As a Specialist Teacher, you will:

  • Lead learning for a class of younger pupils with complex additional needs.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons that meet individual learning goals.
  • Support pupils who are non-verbal through appropriate communication approaches, including visual supports and alternative communication strategies.
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and wider professionals to provide consistent support.
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils, understanding their individual needs, interests and communication styles.
  • Promote independence, confidence and engagement through structured and meaningful activities.
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to individual education plans and reviews.
  • Create a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment where every pupil can thrive.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has experience teaching pupils with SEND including speech, language and communication needs.
  • Has a strong understanding of personalised learning and adapting teaching approaches.
  • Is patient, creative and committed to finding ways to engage every learner.
  • Has experience or an interest in supporting pupils with communication needs.
  • Can build strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Is confident working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Experience with Autism, complex needs, communication difficulties, sensory needs or alternative communication methods would be highly beneficial, although full support will be provided.
