GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for an SEN Teaching Assistant to work across a range of inclusive and nurturing secondary schools in Scarborough. We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive support professional who is passionate about helping students with Special Educational Needs overcome barriers to learning and flourish both academically and personally.

SEN Teaching Assistant Role:

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will provide personalised support to students with a range of additional learning needs, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create an inclusive learning environment. We are looking to recruit an SEN Teaching Assistant who can build strong relationships with young people, adapt support strategies to individual needs, and encourage confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with Special Educational Needs
  • Assist teachers in delivering inclusive lessons and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs
  • Support students with SEND, including Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and SEMH needs where appropriate
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and independent learning skills
  • Monitor student progress and communicate updates with teaching and pastoral staff
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support positive educational outcomes

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND in an educational, care, or support setting is desirable
  • Knowledge of a range of Special Educational Needs and effective support strategies
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting young people
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
