Job Title: Autism Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to work across schools and specialist educational settings in Scarborough and the surrounding areas.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). You will play a key role in helping students develop confidence, independence, communication skills, and positive relationships while enabling them to access learning successfully.
About the Role:
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support to autistic learners, working closely with teachers and SEND professionals to deliver personalised learning strategies. You will help create a structured, supportive environment that promotes engagement, emotional wellbeing, and academic progress.
Core Responsibilities of the Autism Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for autistic learners within the classroom and wider school environment
- Adapt learning activities and communication strategies to meet individual student needs
- Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and social interaction
- Implement individual support plans and follow guidance from teaching and SEND staff
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and support teams
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment for all learners
As the Ideal Autism Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or additional learning needs
- Understanding of autism-friendly strategies and inclusive classroom practices
- Excellent communication, patience, and interpersonal skills
- A calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting learners
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
- A genuine passion for helping children and young people reach their full potential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
