GSL Education are currently recruiting for a motivated and enthusiastic Sports Coach to work in schools across York.

This opportunity is perfect for individuals with a background in sports coaching, fitness, personal training, youth work or mentoring who are looking to transfer their skills into education. Although the role is titled Sports Coach, the position is primarily based within schools, supporting students with their learning, behaviour and personal development.

About the Role

As a Sports Coach, you will work alongside teachers and support staff to help students stay engaged in learning and achieve their full potential. You may provide classroom support, behaviour support, one-to-one interventions, small group work and cover supervision across a variety of educational settings.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in education while making a positive difference to the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in the classroom and encourage positive engagement with learning.
  • Build positive relationships and act as a positive role model for pupils.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support where required.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and daily learning.
  • Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support students' progress and wellbeing.

Requirements:

  • Experience in sports coaching, fitness instruction, personal training, youth work, mentoring or a similar role.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, positive and resilient approach when supporting young people.
  • A genuine passion for helping children and young people succeed.
  • Experience working with SEND or SEMH pupils is desirable but not essential.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
