Salary Scale: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an Autism Teaching Assistant to work across a range of inclusive and supportive secondary schools in York. We are looking for a dedicated, empathetic, and proactive support professional who is committed to helping students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) thrive academically, socially, and emotionally within a positive learning environment.
Autism Teaching Assistant Role:
The successful Autism Teaching Assistant will provide tailored one-to-one and small group support to students with Autism, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to promote engagement, independence, and confidence. We are looking to recruit an Autism Teaching Assistant who can build trusting relationships, implement effective support strategies, and adapt to the individual needs of each student.
Autism Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Assist teachers in adapting learning activities to meet individual communication and learning needs
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction throughout the school day
- Support students in developing confidence, independence, and engagement in learning
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations with teaching and pastoral staff
- Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and external professionals to promote positive outcomes
Autism Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism or additional needs is desirable
- Knowledge of Autism and effective strategies for supporting students with ASC
- Strong communication, patience, and relationship-building skills
- A calm, resilient, and adaptable approach to supporting young people
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
