Primary Teacher (SEMH)

Location: Southend
Salary: £120 - £300 per day
Contract Type: Full-time

Are you a compassionate and dedicated Primary Teacher looking to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient teacher to join a specialist SEMH school in Southend.

As a Primary Teacher, you will deliver engaging, creative and highly differentiated lessons to primary-aged pupils, helping them overcome barriers to learning while developing their confidence, emotional resilience and independence. Working closely with experienced SEN professionals, pastoral teams and teaching assistants, you will create a safe, structured and nurturing classroom where every child feels valued, supported and able to thrive.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of primary-aged pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive engagement.
  • Create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets.
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques to support pupils effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs, therapists, pastoral teams and families to provide holistic support.
  • Monitor, assess and celebrate pupil progress, encouraging both academic achievement and personal development.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • QTS, PGCE, QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching within EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour is desirable.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • A nurturing, patient and resilient approach to teaching.
  • Passion for supporting vulnerable children and improving life outcomes.
