SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Westcliff
Salary: £93-£120 per day (Depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time

GSL Education are seeking resilient, compassionate and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistants to join specialist schools across Westcliff .

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students who require additional emotional, behavioural and academic support. Working alongside experienced teachers, pastoral teams and SEN professionals, you will help create a safe, structured and nurturing environment where students can develop confidence, resilience and achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH, Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, engagement and emotional wellbeing.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support learning, emotional regulation and social development.
  • Use trauma-informed and de-escalation strategies to positively manage behaviour.
  • Encourage independence, resilience and positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to deliver personalised support plans.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour is desirable.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour management.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
