Learning Support Practitioner (Resource Base) – Secondary School
Location: Winchester, Hampshire
Salary: £24,796 - £25,128 FTE (Actual salary pro rata)
Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:25am – 2:55pm) | Term Time Only
Contract: Fixed Term with the potential to be extended
Start Date: September or October

GSL Education is proud to be working in partnership with a highly regarded secondary school in Winchester to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Practitioner to join their specialist Resource Base.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and wants to play a vital role in helping students achieve both academically and personally. Whether you already have school-based experience or come from a care, youth work or support background, this role offers the chance to build a rewarding career within education. Previous school experience is not essential – full training and ongoing support will be provided for the right candidate.
The Role
Working as part of an experienced and supportive SEND team, you will:
- Support students within lessons across a broad secondary curriculum.
- Adapt learning materials and provide additional support where required.
- Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, independence and engagement.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and specialist staff to ensure every student reaches their full potential.
- Provide encouragement, pastoral support and promote student wellbeing throughout the school day.
The students are fully integrated into mainstream education, and your role will be instrumental in ensuring they can access learning successfully within the classroom and beyond.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, caring and empathetic.
- Resilient with a calm and positive approach.
- An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
- Proactive, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Experience working with children or young people is desirable, although backgrounds in care, youth work, coaching, mentoring or support work are also highly valued.
