Primary Teaching Assistant (SEMH Specialist)
Location: M14, Manchester
Salary: £95 – £120 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time only
Start Date: September 2026
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school in the M14 area of Manchester. This role is specifically focused on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
You will work closely with class teachers and the SENDCo to provide tailored pastoral and academic support, helping vulnerable children overcome barriers to learning, manage their emotions, and thrive in a mainstream school environment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with identified SEMH needs and associated behavioral challenges.

Implement personalized behavior plans and de-escalation strategies to maintain a positive learning environment.

Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive space where pupils feel understood and supported.

Assist the class teacher with differentiated learning activities, ensuring lessons are accessible.

Monitor, record, and report on pupils' emotional and academic progress to the SENDCo and parents.
Requirements & Experience

Must have proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, ADHD, ASC, or challenging behaviors.

Team Teach, MAPA, or similar de-escalation training is highly desirable (but not essential).

A patient, calm demeanor with excellent communication and active listening skills.

An understanding of trauma-informed practice or nurture-based interventions is a distinct advantage.

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
