Nursery Assistant

Location: Darlington
Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible

A welcoming and nurturing nursery setting in Darlington is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Nursery Assistant to join their team. This Nursery Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young children's early learning, development and wellbeing within a safe and stimulating environment.

The successful Nursery Assistant will work alongside experienced early years practitioners to support children through play-based learning, daily routines and engaging activities. This is a fantastic opportunity to help children build confidence, independence and essential early learning skills.

Key Responsibilities of the Nursery Assistant:

  • Supporting children within the nursery and Early Years setting.

  • Assisting with play-based learning and educational activities.

  • Supporting children's communication, language and social development.

  • Helping with classroom preparation and daily routines.

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and independence.

  • Supporting children's personal care where required.

  • Building positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues.

  • Helping to create a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Nursery Assistant Will:

  • Have previous experience working with young children in a nursery or early years setting.

  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare or Early Years (preferred but not essential).

  • Be caring, patient and enthusiastic.

  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Have a good understanding of the EYFS Framework (desirable).

  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

  • Have a fully checkable work history.
