Salary: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, proactive, and dedicated Learning Mentor to work across secondary schools and specialist educational settings in York and the surrounding areas.

This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. You will work closely with young people who require additional guidance, helping them develop confidence, improve engagement, and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.

About the Role:

As a Learning Mentor, you will provide tailored support to individual students and small groups, helping them overcome personal and educational challenges that may affect their progress. Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams, and families, you will encourage learners to develop positive attitudes towards education and reach their full potential.

Core Responsibilities of the Learning Mentor:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring to support students' learning and wellbeing
  • Help learners overcome barriers to education, improving engagement and attendance
  • Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, and independent learning skills
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to implement targeted support strategies
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of interventions
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

As the Ideal Learning Mentor, You Should Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, mentoring, youth work, coaching, or care settings
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting learners
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students from a range of backgrounds
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to adapt to individual learner needs
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve positive outcomes

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
