GSL Education Hull branch are currently searching for dedicated Behaviour Support Assistants to work in secondary schools across York and the surrounding areas. Whether you are looking for flexible supply work, a long-term placement, or a permanent opportunity, we can help you find a role that suits your experience and career aspirations.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to support students who may present with behavioural, social, emotional, or additional learning needs. You will play a vital role in promoting positive behaviour, encouraging engagement in learning, and creating a safe and supportive educational environment.

Main Responsibilities as a Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with behavioural, social, and emotional needs.
  • Implement positive behaviour management strategies to encourage engagement and participation in learning.
  • Build trusting relationships with students to promote confidence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Support teachers in maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor student behaviour and progress, providing feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and parents or carers to support individual behaviour plans where appropriate.

Behaviour Support Assistant Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural, SEMH, or additional learning needs is desirable.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting young people.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
