Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Pay: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire branch are recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistant for schools in Rotherham. We are seeking caring, resilient, and proactive individuals who can provide tailored support to pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them engage positively with learning and school life.
The Social, Emotional and Mental health needs TA role provides a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference by supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and academic development.
Responsibilities of SEMH TA:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Encourage positive behaviour using appropriate intervention strategies
- Build trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and resilience
- Support pupils' participation in lessons and daily school activities
- Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to implement individual support plans
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs is advantageous
- Good understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting pupils
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Genuine commitment to improving pupils' wellbeing and educational outcomes
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
