Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire branch are looking to appoint SEMH Teaching Assistants for schools in Sheffield. We are seeking compassionate and resilient individuals who can provide tailored support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs while promoting positive behaviour and engagement in learning.

The SEMH TA role offers a rewarding opportunity to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve positive educational outcomes.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour using appropriate support strategies
  • Build trusting relationships that promote confidence and emotional wellbeing
  • Support pupils' engagement in lessons and daily school activities
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement individual support plans
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable
  • Good understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach when supporting pupils
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Genuine commitment to promoting pupils' wellbeing and development
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
