Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time
Start Date: September 2026
Are you passionate about making a real difference to children with special educational needs? A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
About the Role:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional learning needs. You will help students access the curriculum, build confidence and develop independence through one-to-one and small group support while contributing to a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with special educational needs.

Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.

Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs where appropriate.

Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and participation in classroom activities.

Help maintain a safe, supportive and well-organised learning environment.

Monitor pupil progress and share relevant feedback with teaching staff.
Requirements:

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable.

A caring, patient and adaptable approach to supporting pupils.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.

A genuine commitment to helping children achieve their potential.

Knowledge of additional learning needs such as ASD, ADHD or speech and language needs is advantageous.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
