Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs? A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to students who require additional guidance to engage with learning and develop positive relationships. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will help pupils manage their emotions, build confidence, and overcome barriers to education through patient, consistent support both inside and outside the classroom.

Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs.

Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation throughout the school day.

Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.

Build trusting relationships that help students feel safe and supported.

Help maintain a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment.

Monitor student progress and communicate relevant updates to teaching and pastoral staff.
Requirements:

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

An understanding of SEMH needs or behaviour support is advantageous.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A patient, resilient and empathetic approach.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

A genuine commitment to supporting young people's wellbeing and education.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
