Are you looking for an opportunity to lead a classroom and inspire students every day? A friendly and supportive secondary school in Barnsley is seeking a confident Cover Supervisor to join their team from September 2026.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for delivering pre-set lessons in the absence of teaching staff, ensuring learning continues smoothly throughout the school day. You will supervise students, maintain positive classroom behaviour, and encourage pupils to complete their work to the best of their ability. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or experienced education professionals looking to gain valuable classroom experience.

Responsibilities:

Supervise classes using lesson plans provided by teaching staff.

Keep students engaged and motivated throughout each lesson.

Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy.

Provide clear instructions and offer appropriate support where required.

Record attendance and communicate any concerns to senior staff.

Help maintain a safe, organised and positive learning environment.
Requirements:

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Confidence managing groups of students independently.

A calm, flexible and professional approach.

Good organisational skills and the ability to adapt to different classroom situations.

A genuine enthusiasm for supporting young people's education.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
