Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Are you someone who enjoys helping young people overcome challenges and reach their potential? A welcoming secondary school in Sheffield is looking for a committed Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will provide day-to-day support for students who may need additional guidance with behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing. Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other school staff, you will help students remain focused in lessons, build confidence and develop positive attitudes towards learning. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, proactive and passionate about making a meaningful difference in education.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students in managing their behaviour and engaging positively in lessons.

  • Work alongside teachers to maintain a calm and productive classroom environment.

  • Build trusting relationships with individual students and small groups.

  • Encourage positive choices, resilience and confidence in learning.

  • Assist with implementing behaviour support strategies where appropriate.

  • Share observations and progress updates with teaching and pastoral staff.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting students.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.

  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their goals.

  • Experience in behaviour support, education or youth work is advantageous.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
