Job Title: Learning Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for a Learning Mentor to work across a range of supportive and inclusive secondary schools in York. We are looking for a patient, encouraging, and dedicated professional who is passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve their full academic and personal potential.
Learning Mentor Role:
The successful Learning Mentor will provide targeted support to students who require additional guidance with their learning, behaviour, attendance, or emotional wellbeing. We are looking to recruit a Learning Mentor who can build positive relationships with young people, encourage resilience, and work collaboratively with school staff to promote engagement and achievement.
Learning Mentor Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring to support students' academic and personal development
- Help students overcome barriers to learning, improving engagement, attendance, and confidence
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage students to develop effective learning habits
- Monitor student progress and share feedback with teachers and pastoral staff
- Support students with social, emotional, and wellbeing needs where appropriate
- Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and external agencies to promote positive outcomes
Learning Mentor Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in education, mentoring, youth work, or a similar setting is desirable
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people
- Ability to motivate and inspire students while maintaining professional boundaries
- A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
