Teaching Assistant

Start Date: September 2026  
Salary:
£92 – £115 per day

GSL Education is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Primary Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary provision in York on a full-time basis from September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs within a nurturing and inclusive environment. Working alongside experienced teachers and specialist staff, you will play an important role in helping children achieve their individual goals while encouraging their academic, social and emotional development.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils across the primary provision on a one-to-one and small group basis.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging, personalised learning activities.
  • Encourage pupils' communication, confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Adapt learning resources and support strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour through patience, consistency and encouragement.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Help create a safe, stimulating and inclusive classroom environment where every child can flourish.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within an education or SEND setting.
  • Is nurturing, patient and passionate about supporting young learners.
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Can remain calm, flexible and adaptable to meet pupils' individual needs.
  • Is committed to helping every child reach their full potential.
  • Holds an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
