Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in York from September 2026. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting a Key Stage 3 class of pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
Working alongside experienced teachers and specialist support staff, you will play a key role in helping pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally. Every day brings new opportunities to build confidence, encourage independence and celebrate individual achievements.
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils with Autism within a Key Stage 3 classroom.
- Deliver one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning needs.
- Help implement personalised learning plans and communication strategies.
- Support pupils with social interaction, emotional regulation and sensory needs.
- Encourage independence, confidence and positive engagement throughout the school day.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to ensure every pupil reaches their potential.
- Promote a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment where pupils feel safe, understood and valued.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children or young people with Autism, SEND or additional learning needs.
- Understands the importance of routine, structure and consistency.
- Is patient, empathetic and resilient, with a calm and nurturing approach.
- Can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Holds an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
