GSL Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist education setting in Scarborough on a full-time basis from September 2026.

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex communication needs. Every day is different, and you'll play a vital role in helping pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs.
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to deliver engaging, personalised learning.
  • Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, personal care and independence where required.
  • Encourage positive behaviour using a patient, consistent and nurturing approach.
  • Help create a stimulating learning environment where every child can thrive.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues as part of a dedicated staff team.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND (school, care or support settings).
  • Is calm, patient, resilient and passionate about helping children reach their potential.
  • Can build trusting relationships and adapt to the individual needs of each pupil.
  • Works well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Holds an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.

Whether you are an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or someone looking to build a long-term career in specialist education, this is an excellent opportunity to join a highly supportive setting where you can make a genuine impact on the lives of young people every day.

Why join GSL Education?

  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement.
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development.
  • Long-term opportunity with the potential for a permanent position.
  • A chance to work in a rewarding role where no two days are the same.
  • Access to over £8500 worth of CPD courses including Level 2 Teaching Assistant, SEN Diploma and Level 3 Child Psychology, plus many more.

GSL Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check (or be willing to obtain one), satisfactory references, and safer recruitment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
