Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Pay: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire branch are keen to appoint SEMH Teaching Assistants for schools across Rotherham. We would like to hear from patient and resilient individuals who can support pupils with emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and engagement in classroom learning.

The SEMH Teaching Assistant role provides the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping pupils build confidence, trust, and positive learning habits.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs during lessons and school activities
  • Encourage positive behaviour through consistent routines and clear expectations
  • Assist teachers in adapting classroom tasks to meet individual learning needs
  • Help pupils develop confidence, communication, and emotional regulation skills
  • Work alongside pastoral and support teams to promote pupil wellbeing
  • Contribute to a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable
  • Confident using positive behaviour strategies in classroom settings
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Calm, adaptable, and resilient when supporting pupils through challenges
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion, safeguarding, and student wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
