Job Title: SEMH Teacher
Location: Sheffield
Salary: Up to £200 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you a compassionate and resilient teacher who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning? A specialist educational setting in Sheffield is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join their team from September 2026.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, adapting your teaching to support a range of learning abilities and individual needs. You will create a calm, structured classroom where students feel safe, valued and motivated to achieve their potential. This specialist setting provides a supportive and inclusive environment for students with additional social, emotional and behavioural needs. Staff work collaboratively to build positive relationships, maintain consistent routines and deliver personalised learning that helps students develop both academically and personally.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the individual needs of students with SEMH needs.

  • Differentiate learning to support a range of abilities and learning styles.

  • Assess, monitor and record student progress.

  • Create a positive, structured and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Manage behaviour using consistent, restorative and trauma informed approaches.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, parents and external professionals where appropriate.

  • Contribute to individual support plans and the wider life of the school.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • Experience teaching students with SEMH needs, SEND or within an alternative provision is desirable.

  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • A patient, adaptable and positive approach to supporting young people with additional needs.

  • An enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through GSL Education.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
