SEN Support Worker
Location: Peterlee
Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible
A welcoming and inclusive school in Peterlee is seeking a dedicated SEN Support Worker to join their team. This SEN Support Worker role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment.
The successful SEN Support Worker will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties. As an SEN Support Worker, you will deliver both 1:1 and small group support to promote independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
Key Responsibilities of the SEN Support Worker:

Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN.

Supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and additional learning needs.

Assisting with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs).

Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

Supporting pupils with communication, social and emotional development.

Using de-escalation and behaviour management strategies where appropriate.

Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals.

Helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
The Ideal SEN Support Worker Will:

Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEN.

Have experience supporting pupils with additional learning or behavioural needs.

Be patient, caring and adaptable in approach.

Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Hold Team Teach training (desirable but not essential).

Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

Have a fully checkable work history.
