GSL Education Hull branch are currently recruiting for a motivated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic English Tutor to work within a supportive and inclusive post-16 educational setting in York.

We are seeking a passionate educator who is committed to helping learners improve their literacy skills and achieve success in their GCSE English studies. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with students who are resitting their GCSEs, delivering tailored one-to-one support that develops confidence, enhances communication skills, and promotes academic progress.

About the Role:

As an English Tutor, you will become part of a dedicated English and Mathematics team, providing personalised one-to-one tuition for learners preparing for their GCSE English resits. The successful candidate will use engaging teaching approaches, including mastery and scaffolding techniques, to help students overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills needed to succeed in English Language.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys supporting learners individually, adapting teaching strategies to meet different learning needs, and inspiring students to achieve their full potential.

Core Responsibilities of the English Tutor:

  • Deliver engaging one-to-one GCSE English tuition tailored to individual learner needs
  • Plan and prepare high-quality learning sessions that develop reading, writing, and communication skills
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support achievement
  • Develop and adapt learning resources to enhance engagement and understanding
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning within the department
  • Support learners in building confidence, resilience, and independent study skills

As the Ideal English Tutor, You Should Have:

  • A degree or higher qualification in English or a related subject
  • A recognised teaching qualification (Level 5 teaching qualifications accepted)
  • Strong knowledge of the GCSE English curriculum
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, or supporting English learners
  • A passion for helping students develop confidence and achieve their potential
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working within an educational setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
