Contract Type: Temporary, Full Time, Part-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary Scale: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum (MPS/UPS)

GSL Education Hull branch are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of English to work within a highly supportive secondary school in York. We are looking for an outstanding educator who is committed to delivering high-quality teaching, inspiring learners of all abilities, and fostering a positive and engaging classroom environment.
As a Teacher of English, you will join a collaborative and forward-thinking department, delivering engaging lessons that develop students' reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills. You will play a key role in helping learners build confidence, achieve strong academic outcomes, and develop a lifelong appreciation for English Language and Literature.
Main Responsibilities as a Teacher of English:
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons in line with the national curriculum and examination specifications.
- Teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting lessons to meet a range of learning needs.
- Assess, monitor, and provide constructive feedback to support student progress and achievement.
- Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes high standards of behaviour and engagement.
- Support students in developing strong literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum development, and wider school initiatives.
Teacher of English Minimum Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
- Strong subject knowledge of English Language and English Literature.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and organisational skills.
- A commitment to inspiring young people and promoting high standards of achievement.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
