Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time
Start Date: September 2026

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs? A welcoming school in the Barnsley area is looking for dedicated SEMH Support Staff to join their team from September.

About the Role:

As a member of the SEMH Support team, you will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access learning successfully. You will provide one-to-one and small group support, encourage positive engagement in lessons and help pupils develop confidence, resilience and self-regulation. Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will play a key role in creating a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement throughout the school day.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and social development.

  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement individual support strategies.

  • Help maintain a calm, safe and structured learning environment.

  • Record observations and share relevant feedback with the wider school team.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Experience supporting individuals with SEMH or additional needs is advantageous.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A patient, resilient and empathetic approach.

  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations.

  • A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve positive outcomes.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
