Job Title: Maths Tutor
Location: York and Surrounding areas, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-time, Term Time only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary Scale: £25 – £35 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a motivated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Maths Tutor to work within a supportive and inclusive post-16 educational setting in York.
We are seeking a passionate educator who is committed to helping learners develop their mathematical skills and achieve success in their GCSE Mathematics studies. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with students who are resitting their GCSEs, delivering personalised support that builds confidence, strengthens understanding, and promotes academic achievement.
About the Role:
As a Maths Tutor, you will become part of a dedicated English and Mathematics team, providing tailored one-to-one support for learners preparing for their GCSE Mathematics resits. The successful candidate will use effective teaching strategies, including scaffolding and mastery approaches, to help students overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence needed to succeed.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with learners individually, adapting lessons to meet their needs, and supporting them to make measurable progress.
Core Responsibilities of the Maths Tutor:
- Deliver engaging one-to-one GCSE Mathematics tuition tailored to individual learner needs
- Plan and prepare high-quality learning sessions using effective teaching strategies
- Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support achievement
- Develop and adapt learning resources to enhance student engagement and understanding
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning within the department
- Support learners in building confidence, resilience, and independent study skills
As the Ideal Maths Tutor, You Should Have:
- A degree or higher qualification in Mathematics or a related subject
- A recognised teaching qualification (Level 5 teaching qualifications accepted)
- Strong knowledge of the GCSE Mathematics curriculum
- Experience teaching, tutoring, or supporting Mathematics learners
- A passion for helping students develop confidence and achieve their potential
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working within an educational setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
