A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who benefit from additional guidance, helping them engage positively with learning and school life.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support students with behavioural, emotional and social needs. You will provide one-to-one and small-group support, encourage positive choices and help maintain a calm, structured classroom environment where pupils can develop confidence and make progress.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide behaviour and pastoral support to individual students and small groups.

  • Work alongside teachers to encourage positive engagement during lessons.

  • Help students develop appropriate behaviour strategies and routines.

  • Promote a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.

  • Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff.

  • Monitor progress and communicate relevant observations with the wider school team.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Behaviour support or education experience is advantageous.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.

  • The ability to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people and their development.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
