A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a dedicated Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to join their team from September 2026. This is a school-based classroom support role where your coaching background and ability to motivate, guide and encourage young people will make a real difference. While your experience in sport is highly valued, your main focus will be supporting pupils in lessons, behaviour management and day-to-day learning.
About the Role:
As a Sports Coach / Learning Support member of staff, you will work alongside teachers to provide classroom support for students across Primary or Secondary lessons, depending on the setting. You may also support pupils with SEN, assist with behaviour management, supervise classes when required and help create a positive learning environment where every student can participate with confidence. Your coaching experience will provide valuable transferable skills such as resilience, structure, communication and positive behaviour support, but this is not a sports delivery role.

Responsibilities:

Provide classroom support to individual students and small groups.

Assist teachers with learning activities across a range of subjects.

Support positive behaviour and encourage engagement during lessons.

Provide additional support for pupils with SEN where required.

Carry out cover supervision when appropriate.

Help maintain a safe, organised and welcoming classroom environment.
Requirements:
-
Experience in sports coaching, fitness or youth coaching with transferable skills suited to education.

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

A calm, patient and adaptable approach.

Confidence supporting behaviour management within a classroom setting.

A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their best.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
