Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

A supportive secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a committed Cover Supervisor to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is looking to build experience within a school setting.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will oversee lessons during the short-term absence of teaching staff, delivering pre-prepared work and ensuring students remain focused throughout the lesson. You will help maintain high standards of behaviour, encourage positive attitudes towards learning and provide a consistent classroom experience across a range of subjects.

Responsibilities:

Supervise whole classes using lesson plans provided by teaching staff.

Ensure students remain engaged and complete the work set.

Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school's policies.

Provide clear instructions and maintain an organised learning environment.

Record attendance and report any concerns or incidents following lessons.

Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to support students.
Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people is desirable.

Confident classroom management and communication skills.

The ability to remain calm, organised and professional.

A flexible approach and willingness to cover different subject areas.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships.

A genuine passion for supporting young people in education.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
