Job Title:Cover Supervisor
Location: Selby, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary Scale: £102 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a confident and adaptable Cover Supervisor looking for an opportunity to support students' learning in a dynamic secondary school environment? Do you have the ability to lead a classroom, promote positive behaviour, and ensure students remain engaged in their learning during teacher absences?
GSL Education Hull branch are currently looking for a reliable and motivated Cover Supervisor to work within secondary schools in Selby. We are looking for a professional and enthusiastic individual who can confidently supervise classes, maintain a purposeful learning environment, and encourage students to achieve their best.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will become an integral part of the school community, supervising lessons using pre-planned work and ensuring continuity of learning when teaching staff are absent. This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, or experienced education professionals who enjoy working with young people and want to gain valuable classroom experience.
Main Responsibilities as a Cover Supervisor:
- Supervise whole-class learning during the short-term absence of teaching staff.
- Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and ensure students remain focused on the tasks provided.
- Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies.
- Encourage students to participate actively and complete work to the best of their ability.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Respond appropriately to classroom issues and report any concerns to the relevant staff members.
- Record attendance and provide accurate feedback on lesson engagement and behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to support students' learning and wellbeing.
Cover Supervisor Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, coaching, mentoring, or youth work setting is desirable.
- Confidence in managing groups of secondary-aged students independently.
- Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal abilities.
- A calm, flexible, and professional approach in a busy school environment.
- Ability to follow school policies and adapt to different classroom settings.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
