Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary Scale: £102 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting an Advanced Teaching Assistant to work within secondary schools in York. We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic, and committed support professional who is passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential within a supportive educational environment.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Role:
The successful Advanced Teaching Assistant will provide high-quality classroom support and targeted interventions to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We are looking to recruit an Advanced Teaching Assistant who is confident supporting young people with diverse learning needs and can work proactively alongside teaching staff to deliver effective learning support.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to students with a range of learning needs
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging learning activities and interventions
- Support students with SEND, SEMH, or other barriers to learning, promoting inclusion and independence
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers to support learning outcomes
- Encourage positive behaviour and help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and parents to support student development
Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar educational support role
- Knowledge of supporting students with SEND and additional learning needs is highly desirable
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- A patient, adaptable, and proactive approach to supporting young people
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
