GSL Education are currently looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and passionate English Teacher to work within secondary schools in York.

We are seeking an inspiring educator who is committed to delivering engaging English Language and Literature lessons that challenge, motivate, and support learners of all abilities. This is an excellent opportunity to work across different schools in York, without making a permanent commitment.

About the Role:

As an English Teacher, you’ll be committed to high‑quality teaching and sparking a love of English. You’ll help students build their reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills while fostering an inclusive classroom where every learner can thrive.

We’re seeking someone confident in working with young people of all abilities, including those who may need extra support to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities of the English Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English Language and Literature lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Create stimulating learning experiences that foster a love of reading, writing, and critical analysis
  • Differentiate teaching strategies to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities
  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing constructive and timely feedback
  • Prepare students for internal assessments and external examinations
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and promote a positive classroom culture
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance curriculum delivery and student outcomes

As the Ideal English Teacher, You Should Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting
  • Strong subject knowledge of English Language and Literature
  • Ability to engage, inspire, and motivate learners of all abilities
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive, reflective, and collaborative approach to teaching and learning

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience teaching within an educational setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
