Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary Scale: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting a motivated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work within secondary schools in York. We are seeking a proactive and supportive education professional who is committed to creating positive learning experiences and helping students thrive both academically and personally.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work as part of a supportive and collaborative team, providing classroom support and delivering targeted interventions to help students access the curriculum successfully. The successful candidate will be confident working with young people who may face barriers to learning and will be committed to promoting an inclusive, engaging, and positive learning environment.
Main Responsibilities as a Teaching Assistant:
- Provide classroom support to teachers, helping to deliver engaging and effective lessons.
- Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning and improve academic progress.
- Support students who require additional assistance, helping them overcome barriers to learning.
- Assist in preparing classroom resources and learning materials.
- Encourage positive behaviour, active participation, and confidence within the classroom.
- Support students with varying learning needs, adapting your approach where appropriate.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Promote students' social, emotional, and personal development while maintaining high expectations.
Teaching Assistant Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting is desirable.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- A patient, adaptable, and proactive approach to supporting learning.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
