About the Role:

GSL Education South Yorkshire are currently recruiting a Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to work in a supportive secondary school in Sheffield. This is a school-based classroom support role where your coaching experience will be used to encourage positive behaviour, student engagement and confidence within the classroom. Although your background in sport is highly valued, your main responsibilities will centre on supporting teaching and learning, providing behaviour support, assisting with cover supervision, and helping students access education successfully.

About the School:

The school offers an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve their full potential. Staff work closely together to maintain high expectations, provide excellent pastoral care, and ensure every learner receives the support they need to succeed academically and personally.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom support to students across a range of secondary year groups.

  • Work alongside teachers to promote positive behaviour and engagement in lessons.

  • Deliver targeted learning support to individual students and small groups.

  • Assist with cover supervision when teaching staff are absent.

  • Support students with SEN or additional learning needs where appropriate.

  • Help create a calm, structured and positive learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in sports coaching, fitness instruction, youth work or a similar role.

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills developed through coaching or mentoring.

  • Ability to motivate and build positive relationships with young people.

  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach.

  • An interest in supporting students within a secondary school classroom environment.

  • Previous school-based experience is beneficial but not essential, as transferable skills from sport are highly valued.
