Early Years Teaching Assistant

Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible

A welcoming and supportive primary school in Middlesbrough is seeking a dedicated Early Years Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team. This Early Years Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young children during the early stages of their education and helping them develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive.

The successful Early Years Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher and Early Years staff to deliver engaging, play-based learning while supporting children's academic, social and emotional development. You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can flourish.

Key Responsibilities of the Early Years Teaching Assistant:

  • Supporting children within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

  • Assisting with play-based learning and educational activities.

  • Supporting communication, language and social development.

  • Promoting positive behaviour and classroom engagement.

  • Assisting with classroom preparation and daily routines.

  • Supporting children with additional needs where required.

  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.

The Ideal Early Years Teaching Assistant Will:

  • Have previous experience working within an Early Years or Nursery setting.

  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Early Years or Teaching Assistance (desirable).

  • Be nurturing, patient and enthusiastic.

  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Have a good understanding of the EYFS Framework.

  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).

  • Have a fully checkable work history.
